I have been a big fan of Edna Buchanan’s Britt Montero series since 1994 when she wrote Miami, It’s Murder. Like many mystery readers who discover an author they really like, I then went back and read the first in the series, Contents Under Pressure, and the others since then.
But she hasn’t written a Britt Montero since Margin of Error in 1997. So imagine my thrill to find out the new Buchanan is not only in the Montero series, but one of her very best.
In Garden of Evil, Buchanan tackles the issue of a female serial killer who lures men into sex, and then blasts them away. Obviously, a woman with an issue! The only clue she leaves is lipstick on the bullets, and uses the victims’ cars and credit cards as she travels across the state of Florida.
Of course, Britt is dying to get into this woman’s head, find out what makes her tick, and publish her story. She manages to not only do this, but help apprehend her in a great chase scene all over the state of Florida.
And the ending leaves you with a chill to your soul!
A great book, and high on my list of recommendations.
