Unfortunately, ten years ago she had been indicted and acquitted of murdering her first husband in the exact same way.

Second in the Lydia Strong series:
The Darkness Gathers

Fresh from a book tour promoting her account of her last case, Lydia receives an anonymous cry for help in her fan mail - a tape of a missing young girl's desperate message on an answering machine. The accompanying note begs Lydia to find and protect Tatiana Quinn "and all the other girls in need of rescue." Maybe the plea strikes close to her heart; maybe her investigator's intuition starts buzzing. But she can't stop thinking about Tatiana Quinn.
This simple case of a missing teenager soon becomes much more. Apparently, someone is anxious that Lydia drop the case, someone powerful, someone who grows nervous enough to engineer the reappearance of one of Lydia's first - and most dangerous - adversaries. Now, in addition to tracing the roots of Tatiana's disappearance on a trail from New York to Miami and eventaully overseas, Lydia must find the man who wants her dead, his unfinished business from years ago.

First in the Lydia Strong series:
Angel Fire

The bloody murder of her mother when she was a teenager made Lydia Strong into a woman obsessed with bringing burtal killers to justice. Now thirty years old, she is a reclusive bestselling true crime writer and investigative consultant whose intuitions never lie.
The latest case to capture her attention is the disappearance of three adults, each the kind of loner whose sudden absence isn't missed - they have no family, few friends.
The Santa Fe police don't see a pattern, but when another woman turns up missing, her apartment streaked with blood, even the police have to admit that something is wrong in their usually quiet town.
Lydia and P.I. Jeffrey Mark, the ex-FBI agent who solved her mother's murder, begin a relentless investigation. But it is only when the killer ups the ante and goes after Lydia herself that, just like fifteen years ago when she put the FBI on the trail of her mother's killer, the real hunt begins...

Beautiful Lies
by Stephanie Saxon Levine

Intrigued by the newest book from Lisa Unger, a.k.a. Lisa Miscione, I took Beautiful Lies with me on a recent trip to Houston. The plane sat on the runway for three hours, waiting for a rainstorm to abate so we could take off. I hardly noticed the passage of time.
This gripping tale begins with on an ironic note. Ridley Jones’ presence on a particular street on a very ordinary day results in her performing an act of heroism. The statement “No good deed goes unpunished.” has particular relevance to her life, because, as a result of the publicity from her action, Ridley is plunged into a whirlpool. She is forced to examine her background, and that of her loved ones. What’s more, danger surrounds her, and she doesn’t know whom she can trust.
Not only is the plot suspenseful, but the characters are thoroughly believable. It is easy to see how the situation could have developed, given the nature of the characters Lisa Unger creates.
This reader’s enjoyment was further enhanced by the description of setting. The story takes place in New York, and, for this native New Yorker, it was especially delightful to be transported to the streets of The Big Apple while sitting on a runway in Fort Lauderdale. Unger’s settings are meticulously described, without overwhelming the story.
I was rooting for Ridley as I read, hoping she would safely escape from the very dangerous situation that her act of heroism unleashed.
I hope to read more books featuring Ridley Jones in the future. But, whether Beautiful Lies is a standalone or first in a series, it spotlights the considerable writing talents of Lisa Unger, and should not be missed.
