Whale Season

In Whale Harbor, a tiny Florida town where there have never been whales, residents are putting the Christ back in Christmas - literally. A drifter in a loincloth is walking around town pretending to be Jesus. Florida residents take their miracles where they can get them, and if that means being led to salvation by a schizophrenic with a rap sheet, so be it.

Whale Season
by Joanne Sinchuk

Whale Harbor, a tiny town in south Florida where there are no and have never been no whales, is the setting for this wacky novel spoofing small town life in Florida. Drifting into Whale Harbor, is a wacky drifter who bears a remarkable resemblance to Jesus. Last year the Florida State Highway Patrol picked up approximately six thousand versions of Jesus. Dividing that by the square mile area of the state, it averages out to about one Jesus every ten square miles in the state of Florida. But none of them are like this one.
Jesus arrives in a quarter million dollar recreational vehicle (The American Dream), which he immediately loses in a poker game to Leon, owner of Lucky’s RV Roundup.
Poor Jesus! Nothing he has done in his past prepares him for the characters found in Whale harbor: Petit’s All-Star Alligator Farm, Buddy’s Snake Petting Zoo, The Dream Café, Star-crossed lovers, a horny sheriff named Trot, exploding trailers, the Bee-Jesus, Grover Cleveland in a tutu, and a Tom Sawyer/Huckleberry Finn – type funeral.
But a serial killer is on the loose and Trot is hot on the case. In the tradition of Carl Hiaasen, and with lots of blurbs front and back from said Hiaasen, Whale Season is a funny, entertaining read. Less political than Hiaasen, with more small town charm and character-driven humor, Whale Season is sure to make you laugh out loud with delight.
